Kurmanji of Lebanon
Primary Religion: Islam (90.0%)
Known Christians: 4% (3,560)
The Kurmanji are made up of a number of clans, tribes, and tribal confederations, many of which have been in existence for thousands of years. They have been in a weak position both socially and economically and cannot press for better conditions for fear of deportation or imprisonment. Nearly all Kurmanji are Muslims, most being Sunnis. They first embraced Islam after the Arab conquests of the seventh century. They look to Islam as a basis for social justice. The Islamic religion is very difficult to influence and very little progress has been made. There are only a few known believers among them.
Ask the Lord to call people who are willing to go to Lebanon and share Christ with the Kurmanji people; that the Holy Spirit will soften their hearts towards Christianity. Pray that God will raise up Lebanese Christians as a clear Gospel witness of His love for them. Petition strength, encouragement, and protection for the few known Christians.
